We don't want your serial numbers, just your stolen gun serial numbers.
FAQ
General
| Q: | Is FIREARMSFAX a supporter of gun control? |
| A: | We are members of NRA , SCI, and the NSSF. We believe our rights to bear arms should never compromised or taken away. |
| Q: | Why do you charge for your services? |
| A: | We would like to offer our services for free, but we have to cover our huge expenses. Some of our expenses include our own dedicated servers for the protection of our users and website, hacker safe programs, website programming and maintenance by our developers, overhead, offices, etc. |
| Q: | Why do members of law enforcement get free access? |
| A: | We offer free access to law enforcement members because they are the first line of defense when people get robbed. Police receive reports regarding stolen guns every day and also apprehend criminals with stolen firearms. Police also can’t get an immediate result on a firearm when they check the serial numbers to see if it’s been reported stolen. Giving them free access helps to recover stolen firearms, catch the criminals who stole the firearms, and also they report to us the stolen firearms they come across. |
| Q: | I forgot my password and I had sent a request for my password to be sent to me. I never received it. How come? |
| A: | First, check your junk or spam folder. Sometimes our e-mails are blocked by spam filter programs. To ensure that you receive future emails from FIREARMSFAX, add FIREARMSFAX to your address book. |
| Q: | Who’s to say the government will not subpoena FIREARMSFAX’s records to access gun owners information? |
| A: | In most states, when a new handgun is purchased, paperwork from the state as well as the ATF Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms have to be filled out, so they already have this information. When a used handgun is purchased legally, it can always be traced back to the most recent owner. |
Gun Owners
| Q: | Why should I use FIREARMSFAX when I already reported my stolen firearms to the police? |
| A: | 1.) If the thieves try to sell your stolen firearm to a gun/pawn shop, the shops can check our system to see if the firearms have been reported stolen. |
| 2.) The police do not have the manpower to notify the gun/pawn shops in the area. As soon as you register your stolen firearms, we immediately notify all the registered gun/pawn shops within a 50-mile radius of the reported stolen firearm. The chances of getting your firearms returned to you increase significantly. | |
| Q: | Why do you need the police report number and the police department which took the report? |
| A: | When your firearms are located, we need that information to verify it with the police that they’ve been found and are returned to the rightful owner. |
| Q: | I registered my stolen firearms with FIREARMSFAX and my local police found them. Do I need to report it to FIREARMSFAX? |
| A: | Yes you do need to report it to us. We will then contact your local police to verify the information. All stolen firearms stay in our database permanently until we are notified by the rightful owner or the police that your firearms were found. Once the information has been verified, we will delete the guns from our database. |
| Q: | Why can’t I just delete my firearms from the database? Why do I have to contact FIREARMSFAX? |
| A: | We want to ensure that the rightful owner is in possession of the firearm which was reported stolen. |
| Q: | How do I report to FIREARMSFAX that my firearms were found? |
| A: | You may call us (267) 513-1868 or fill out the ”Contact Us” form. |
| Q: | Will I be notified if my firearms are located by FIREARMSFAX? |
| A: | We will contact you as soon as we receive verification from the police. |
| Q: | Will my name and personal information show up if there is a hit on my stolen gun or in the email notifications sent out to the gun and pawn shops? |
| A: | No it will not. The only information that is viewable is the serial number, make, model and the description. |
Gun and Pawn Shops
| Q: | How was your database of stolen guns collected and how up to date is it? |
| A: | Our database comprises of stolen guns reported to us from gun owners and law enforcement. Stolen guns are reported to us daily. |
| Q: | How quickly will I receive the email notifications when stolen guns are put into your system? |
| A: | The emails are sent out the instant the stolen gun is put into our database. |
| Q: | I haven’t received email notifications about stolen guns. How come? |
| A: | First check your spam folder. Also, make sure you register your shop’s address and most importantly the zip code. Our system can only send email notifications to the shops which have listed their shop’s zip code. |
| Q: | I’ve noticed that sometimes the serial number on the gun has a hyphen in it, but when I’ve looked on the order manifest there isn’t a hyphen in the serial number, or vice versa. How am I supposed to check the serial number, if I don’t know if there is a hyphen in the serial number when it was added to your database? |
| A: | We’ve set up our system to recognize just the letters (capital and lower case) and numbers in the serial number. So if a stolen gun’s serial number was put into our database as ABCD-12, you will still get a hit even if you put the serial number in as ABCD12 or abcd12. |
| Q: | What do I do if I get a hit using your system? |
| A: | First, never tell the person that you suspect the gun is stolen. Call your local police and have them handle it. |
| Q: | I am a gun/pawn shop owner and would like to use your services, but I don’t have internet access in my shop. How can I still use your services? |
| A: | Unfortunately at this time, FIREARMSFAX is only available to via the internet. We are looking to offer our services for those shops which don’t have internet access in the near future. |
Law Enforcement
| Q: | I’ve signed up for a law enforcement account, but still haven’t been given a law enforcement account. How come? |
| A: | We usually verify law enforcement member’s status within 48 hours. If we haven’t contacted you within the 48 hours, please email us at lawenforcement@firearmsfax.com or call (267) 513-1868. |
| Q: | I want to enter stolen guns into your database, but I don’t have the time. What do I do? |
| A: | 1.) We understand that many law enforcement agencies are understaffed or simply don’t have the time. But we encourage you to please report them to us. It’ll make it much easier for other law enforcement agencies to apprehend these criminals and get these stolen firearms off the streets. As we all know, majority of these stolen firearms are used to commit crimes. |
| 2.) What you can do is fax over the police report to us and we will put it in for you. Please black out any personal information on the victim and fax the report to (267) 513-1939. | |
| Q: | How do I put in the serial number when I am checking it to see if it’s hot? Do I have to put in the serial number exactly as it is stamped on the gun? |
| A: | We’ve set up our system to recognize just the letters (capital and lower case) and numbers in the serial number. So if a stolen gun’s serial number was put into our database as ABCD-12, you will still get a hit even if you put the serial number in as ABCD12 or abcd12. |
| Q: | What if I get a call from a gun/pawn shop in my area saying they got a hit on a stolen gun using FIREARMSFAX? |
| A: | Please contact us stolenguns@firearmsfax.com or (267)513-1868, and we will provide you with a police report number as well as the contact information for the law enforcement agency which is handling the case. Our mission is to get the stolen guns returned to their rightful owner and catch criminals. |
